Cost of Living 1994

A L’Amour relocation to the new space proved to be a good move. More space allowed expansion of the bridal lines that were showcased. New designers were added.

The World in 1994

Tonya Harding wins the national Figure Skating championship title but is stripped of her title following an attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan. Who would have ever guessed that a connection would be made between an Olympic skater and a bridal designer?

Vera Wang opened a luxury salon in 1990, showcasing her new bridal collection. But the elegance, detailing, and freshness of her line quickly won her kudos from the world at large, and a wedding dress superstar was born. In 1994, a simple white skating dress with illusion sleeves worn by Nancy Kerrigan made her a household name. (A life-long athlete who has competed in international skating competitions, Vera Wang continues to design costumes for Olympic skaters such as Michelle Kwan.)

O. J. Simpson arrested in killings of wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and friend, Ronald Goldman (June 18).

The bride walked down the aisle in an imported lace dress by “Dynasty” designer, Nolan Miller, and clutched a bouquet of pink roses.

The groom wore a white stand-up collar dress coat.

Celine Dion and Rene Angelil…

Celine Dion destined to become pop music’s reigning queen donned a regal silk creation lavishly embellished with hand-sewn pearls by designers Mirella and Steve Gentile, which featured a sweetheart neckline showcasing a delicate diamond necklace, a twenty-foot train (which was attended to by the bride’s eight sisters) and cornet sleeves which harmonized with the billowing ballroom skirt.

To compliment a gown which took 1,000 hours to complete, the bride donned a seven pound tiara composed of 2,000 Austrian crystals, to which a cathedral-length veil was attached.

Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley

Trends in Bridal…elaborate long sleeves, heavily beaded and encrusted gowns and headpieces, long cathedral trains with cut outs and embellishments. Long veils and enormous pouf around the face. As you can see in the celebrity weddings….more was better. The ballgown was extremely popular. However the sheath–a straight silhouette was equally popular…but both styles were heavily beaded and detailed.
